C-FLOOD App (India’s First Web-Based Flood Forecasting Platform)
  • C-FLOOD is a real-time web platform that provides two-day advance flood forecasts, including flood maps and water level predictions.

Developed By:

  • C-DAC Pune
  • Central Water Commission (CWC)
  • In collaboration with NRSC, Ministry of Jal Shakti, MeitY, and DST

Key Features:

  • Two-day forecasts at the gram panchayat (village) level
  • 2D hydrodynamic modelling powered by High Performance Computing (HPC) under NSM
  • Multi-basin coverage: Currently includes Mahanadi, Godavari, and Tapi basins
  • Real-time data integration
  • Integration with National Disaster Emergency Management (NDEM) portal

Significance:

  • Helps in early warning and safe evacuation planning
  • Promotes climate-resilient water management
  • Enhances India’s disaster resilience capacity
  • Supports the goals of Viksit Bharat @2047

On the occasion of Alluri Sitarama Raju’s 128th birth anniversary, India’s Defence Minister paid tribute to his remarkable contributions.

Who was Alluri Sitarama Raju?

  • He was a fearless revolutionary and freedom fighter who led a tribal uprising against British colonial rule.
  • Although not a tribal himself, he is revered for protecting the rights and lives of tribal communities.

🔷 Region:

  • Born: 4 July 1897 in Mogallu village, near Bhimavaram (in present-day Andhra Pradesh)
  • Area of Operations: The Agency regions of the Eastern Ghats in Andhra Pradesh

🔷 Historical Background:

  • Early Life: Received his early education in his village, later moved to Visakhapatnam.
  • At the age of 18, he renounced worldly life and became a sanyasi, wandering through forests and mountains and forming a deep bond with the tribal people.
  • Initially inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he joined the non-violent movement, but when peaceful means failed, he took up armed resistance.

🔷 Major Contributions to India’s Freedom Movement:

👉 Leader of the Rampa Rebellion (1922–1924):

  • Led the tribal revolt against the Madras Forest Act of 1882, which criminalized traditional practices like Podu cultivation.
  • Tribals were forced into unpaid labour for building roads and railways, further fuelling discontent.

👉 Guerrilla Warfare:

  • He formed an armed tribal force that launched attacks on British police stations, seized weapons, and killed colonial officers.

👉 Martyrdom and Legacy:

  • Alarmed by his rising influence, the British placed a ₹10,000 bounty on his head.
  • On 7 May 1924, he was captured through deceit, tied to a tree, and shot dead.

🔷 Legacy:

  • Fondly remembered as “Manyam Veerudu” (Hero of the Jungle).
  • The Andhra Pradesh government celebrates July 4th each year as a state festival in his memory.

 

 

He remains a symbol of tribal resistance, justice, and sacrifice in India's freedom struggle.

🎶 What is Chautal?

  • Chautal (also spelled Chowtal or Chartal) is a traditional 12-beat rhythmic cycle (tala) mainly associated with the Dhrupad style of Indian classical music.
  • Originates from North Indian classical traditions
  • Pakhawaj is the primary percussion instrument used
  • Deeply linked to Dhrupad, India’s oldest surviving form of classical music
